Hi Lisa, great blog. I am a philosopher from NYC on a tour of the West with my family. I have just visited Stanford’s ranch upon reading about your book in the NYTimes. I have been deeply affected by his presence and graciousness – and thinking of trying to spend more time studying with him…and maybe figure out how he can get more support for what he does..? He seems interested in being introduced in academic settings – I gather he toured Harvard and Brown a couple of year ago – and am exploring possibilities of getting him out to Rutgers. We are in the Boulder area for the week and would love to meet up with you for a chat if you are around…

I picked up your book when I was at a bookstore in Patagonia, AZ. Your writing has inspired me so much, I gave it as a gift to a Blackfoot woman I know who is a spiritual healer. It has helped me to understand her priorities–that she can sit with a dying friend at the VA hospital this holiday season and generally be so dedicated to people’s needs–so selfless.

I live in the same county as Sedona and was horrified to hear of the sweat lodge tragedy there. Seemed like such a corruption of a sacred ceremony.

I used to know one of the Lisa Joneses, but I’m not sure which one. Not the “big ole queer,” I don’t think. Since Amazon only sends out books engraved in tortoise shells to China, I might have to wait until I get back to Boulder to look at the back flap and discover which one it really is.

Thanks for writing, Deborah. I have a google group I use to send out periodic updates about Stanford, his hospital stay, etc. You can join it on the home page of my website. My husband visited Stan yesterday (I stayed home with a cold) and the word is he’ll be out on WEDNESDAY. Which is good news.
